He said lives are precious that must not be lost due to negligence. He called for ensuring safety by taking all proper steps including wearing helmets while riding on road. Islamabad Police Inspector General Muhammad Amir Zulfiqar Khan thanked Careem Pakistan for realising the importance of safety and partnering with them in raising awareness about importance of wearing helmets while riding.
The Careem also takes different measures to ensure safety and security of their captains and customers. Those measures include: Track my Ride, In-ride Insurance and 24/7 in-ride helpline. In case of emergencies during the ride, Careem provides a 24/7 helpline for Captains and Customers. According to Motorway Police, around 15000 people die annually in Pakistan and 50 percent of the accidents are of bike riders although serious injuries could have been avoided by use of helmets. Head injuries are a major cause of death, injury and disability among motorcyclist and those who ride the pillion seat.
According to a research by World Health Organisation, lack or inappropriate use of helmets increase the risk of fatalities and injuries resulting from road crashes involving motorised two-wheelers. Non-helmeted motorcyclists are three times more likely to sustain head injuries in a crash compared to those wearing helmets.
